Our History

The story of Village Primary & Infant School is one of resilience, community partnership, and unwavering dedication to educational excellence. Originally established as White House School in the small district of Village, our institution's early years were marked by the challenges and opportunities that would ultimately shape our character. The school operated peacefully in its original location until the devastating Hurricane Janet struck Jamaica in 1951, severely damaging the building and forever altering the course of our history. The hurricane's destruction coincided with an industrial development that would prove providential for our school's future. Alcan Jamaica Company, now known as Windalco, owned the land where White House School stood and needed to mine for bauxite in the area. Rather than simply relocating the school, this moment became an opportunity for transformation. The Ministry of Education, recognizing the importance of educational continuity for the community, entered into a collaborative partnership with Alcan Jamaica Company to not just rebuild, but to create a better, more modern educational facility. Construction of the new school began with careful planning and community input, resulting in a thoughtfully designed institution that would better serve the educational needs of the Faiths Pen community. The building was completed in 1961, strategically positioned on the main road connecting Kingston through Ewarton to Faiths Pen, making it accessible to families throughout the region. The timing of our completion proved to be historically significant, as we were able to officially open our doors during Jamaica's first Independence celebrations in 1962, forever linking our institutional identity with our nation's journey toward self-determination. From those early days of rebuilding and renewal, Village Primary & Infant School has grown into a distinguished co-educational institution known for its multigrade approach and commitment to holistic education. Our reputation for excellence has been built through consistent achievements in JCDC Festival Competitions, 4H Achievement Competitions, District Association Sports, and spelling competitions. These successes reflect not only our students' talents but also our educators' dedication to nurturing every aspect of child development. Today, more than six decades since our reopening, Village Primary & Infant School stands as a testament to the power of community partnership and educational vision. Our comprehensive extra-curricular programs, including Cub Scouts, 4H Club, Hype Club, Culture Club, and Environment Club, continue the tradition of developing well-rounded individuals prepared for future success. Under the continued leadership of dedicated educators and community members, we remain committed to our founding principle that every child deserves an excellent education in a safe, supportive environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential.
